ALLAN GARDENS CONSERVATORY

This past Saturday, with Valentines Day approaching, the Toronto Star recommended 10 best places in Toronto to propose marriage.  All recommendations were completely unacceptable with the exception of No.3 - High Park and No.6 - Toronto Island.  If you want to take a woman on a date, and, perhaps propose marriage, Allan Gardens Conservatory would be an adequate venue.  Maybe take her out for an ice cream before or afterwards.

Built in 1910, Allan Gardens is a lovely way to spend a late morning or early afternoon, and preferably on a weekday.  We visited on a Sunday after the St. Lawrence Market and regretted having to share the space with screaming children and a family photo shoot.  I love this greenhouse and am very fond of the cactus room.  I hope, one day, to have a greenhouse extension to my home dedicated to hot climate plants, exotic to one who grew up in Canada.  Until then, I will visit here during the winter months.

Allan Gardens is maintained by the City of Toronto and admission is free.

  1. I spent a lovely Valentine's Day here once. There were a lot of people taking wedding photos, but despite the crowds it was still dreamy.
    Gorgeous photos!
