I've been collecting these plates for years. As other interests fade, I still find these objects fascinating. They come from around 1850 - 1910, when it became the trend to remove the plate from the coffin before burial to be saved as a memento. Although this may seem like a morbid thing to collect, I like to think about the people, imagine their lives, and reflect on my own mortality. Also, the engraving and designs are beautiful and unique.
