DREW SIMPSON

Having spent a year in Barcelona and Tangiers, this exceptional Canadian now makes Berlin his home.  Drew Simpson is a painter and his passion for working is tangible. Luckily, his skill matches his dedication.  He works tirelessly on immaculately detailed works that he describes as 90% beauty and 10% horror.  Simpson is currently exhibiting Eulogy to Big Nothing at Fischer Kunsthandel & Edition until October 20.

Simpson's art dispels notions of privilege. At first glance, these interiors seem refined, sophisticated, elite. In truth, they are merely spaces of vanity, decorated in order to distract the inhabitant from their own demise and the inevitable emptiness that awaits them, and us, on the other side.  -Emilie Trice

Showing alongside artists that include Otto Dix, Simpson has come a great distance from his blue collar youth in small town Ontario.  Yet, even as his work becomes more sophisticated, he manages to retain his sense of humour, inclusive attitude and determination to see others achieve their potential.

  1. He really is an exceptional Canadian. Seriously, Drew is awesome. It's beautiful to see all of his hard work getting him the recognition he deserves.
    Oh, and nice wood!
