Opening tonight! Monkey's Recovery, 7 - 9 pm at Clint Roenisch Gallery
.
Back in February we shot Jennifer Murphy's apartment for our Tuesday interiors feature. During our visit we were transfixed by the work in progress for this show. Murphy’s pieces give me the strange feeling of a half-remembered dream; she has caught the intangible moment between sleep and wakefulness and made it material. This body of work is loosely inspired by the woodblock prints of the nineteenth century Japanese artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. Murphy looked to his series depicting Chinese and Japanese legends and in an uncanny way captured the sense of danger, humour and mystery that inhabits the illustrations.
We had the opportunity
this week to document the install. I've withheld some of the more
descriptive images to retain the element of surprise. Hope to see you
there this evening! If not, Monkey's Recovery will be exhibiting
through to June 17th.
