41ST PARIS (ONTARIO) ANTIQUE SHOW

The Paris (Ontario) Antique Show started in 1972 by Paris District High School music teacher Duncan Addison as a means of raising funds for the school choir.  Still a fundraiser, PDHS today contributes its earnings towards a leadership programme.  Students volunteer their time and efforts throughout the weekend event.

Held at the Paris (Ontario) Agricultural Fairgrounds, I enjoyed capturing this community event as a whole, but was less interested in the items vendors had on offer.  Not a place to get a deal, but definitely entertaining from an anthropological perspective and for the $5 it costs to get in.

“These very old items give off a kind of vibe,” says organizer Jeff Stutley.
Stutley himself has a particular interest in lighting and items that are especially old. He brought to the show a Dutch onion bottle dating back to 1730. The bottle, which would have held madeira or port, was aboard a ship that left from Holland and later sank. Divers rescued the artifacts.  Stutley also had for sale several engravings dating back to the early 1700s. - Michelle Ruby, Brantford Expositor
