IOTA-ETA-SIGMA

IHS denotes the holy name of Jesus Christ (Iota-Eta-Sigma) and is often inscribed on the cross above the Saviour of Men.  It was the most common Christogram used in the Latin-speaking Christianity of Medieval Western Europe and is still used by Catholics and Protestants today.  At first glance, on this particular religious artifact, the Christogram looks like a giant dollar sign.
