ANDREA WILSON

Since February, Andrea has been working as the news officer at the AGO.  With a thorough background in art history and communications, she is now putting into practice what was abstract during her graduate studies.  Her profession positions her as the medium between art and its audience: making her responsible for finding the balance between the academic practice of art writing and accessibility.

In a conversation about learning a new language (Andrea is currently studying French), we commiserated over sharing a similar mind and ear not naturally attuned to such things as the formulaic nature of syntax.  She told me that she loves art because it's not  necessarily dictated by structures or systems, it can be open to layers of meaning, and yet takes an understanding of, and appreciation for legacy and history.  Witty, charming, and sharp as a tack, Andrea shares the sensibilities of an artist and the logic of a writer.  A woman working in the offices above the galleries, she's a pillar of support to the visual arts.
