Maison Particulière offers a completely different way to experience contemporary art. I visited Brussels last weekend for the art fair but found the most inspiration at this unique non-profit organization. The work is displayed in a late 19th century townhouse alongside furniture, flowers and objects. There is no didactic text on the walls, rather, viewers are encouraged to sit on one of the many beautiful couches or chairs to read from black binders about the artists. The curation is very different too; the work is loaned from private collectors who get to choose themselves which pieces they would like to display. The mission statement of Maison Particulière is "To experience the emotion of art with passion, sensitivity and beauty" -- I believe that they are succeeding.
