SOMETIMES CLEANING THE CLOSET ISN'T ENOUGH

Sometimes the whole closet has to go.  With 9 years of accumulation drowning any desire for time at home, something drastic had to happen.  While dealing with this closet I've been ruminating on the text "beware of all enterprises that require new clothing" inscribed on Mr. Emerson's wardrobe in E.M Forster's Room with a View.  It turns out that this is the sage advice of Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862), the American author and philosopher.  Thoreau is full of such nuggets ("Things do not change, we change.  Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts") to spark one forward on their purge of material possessions.  He was also an early environmentalist, transcendentalist and champion of simple living.  What would he think of the mess we're in now.
