ACADEMY OF LIONS

The Academy of Lions is a unique place. Yes, it is a gym, but not a normal one.  You won't find rows of glossy equipment, television screens and treadmills.  This is Crossfit, a system of excercise invented by Greg Glassman in 2000, inspired by Olympian Nicholas Romanov's Pose Method of training.

constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement

work capacity across broad time and modal domains

These are the principals of Crossfit gyms and this is what you should expect at the Academy. If they seem vague and open-ended, it's because they are and need to be in order to accomplish their goal; making you physically better in every way.

Crossfit athletes combine movements such as sprinting, rowing, jumping rope, climbing rope, olympic weightlifting and carrying/lifting/throwing/flipping/swinging odd objects. All of this is before they get into agility, joint mobility, flexibility and body weight exercises. They use barbells, dumbells, gymnastics rings, pull-up bars, kettlebells, medicine balls, sand bags, sledge hammers, large tires, beer kegs and weighted vests. Not to mention anything else that might be around like logs, fences, playground equipment, etc. This might seem like a lot, and it is, but it also generates a fun, challenging, evolving and never boring place to go and sweat like you never knew you could.

However, that is not the only thing that makes this place special. Using the gym as it's foundation, A of L has a General Store selling fitness equipment so you can take what you learn home or on the road, as well as organic meats, eggs and other ethical groceries.  They have; a cafe providing delicious and nutritious drinks and food, an art and design space featuring work by local artists, and a non-profit youth education and mentorship facility that teaches health, fitness and leadership, giving teens a strong foundation to build on for the rest of their lives. In addition to all of this, the Academy of Lions is still growing; their building on Ossington has lots of undeveloped space ready for evolution. Snoop just joined the pride after all...
