THE JOHN TURNER TERRACOTTA HOUSE

John Turner (the Victorian contractor not the former PM) built this house in 1890 as his personal residence.  He owned a construction yard nearby on Dundas and, left with a load of terracotta tiles no longer in vogue, put them to good use.  You can take a look for yourself if walking in the West end down Jerome Street.  For other notable sites surrounding the Terracotta house, check out the West Bend Walking Tour.

  1. I just wanted to pop in and say that I so enjoy your blog. The small details you pick up on are pretty fantastic.

As for this house, I love how spectacularly out-of-place it looks.

  3. My family used to live in his other house on 2549 Dundas St W. I use to love coming home and knowing the Terra Cotta gargoyles were keeping watch :)
