I love metal hardware to finish a leather item, especially at the toe of a shoe. I've noticed this season is also in favour of this embellishment (a trend pulled from the 80s), but what I've seen in the shops is lacking subtly. It takes a high quality leather, the perfectly shaped toe (pointed, but not too much so), a modest height to the heel, and most importantly, the right balance between the ornamentation and the shoe. I own a pair of flats where a decorative metal toe takes a practical shoe next level. It doesn't take much. The contrast between the metal and the leather is enough of a statement, the form should be kept simple and elegant. The pair featured here were picked up at Talize for $5. They are well loved, but still fine enough for a few outings more.
i found some metal toe pumps at a VV recently and thought of this post ... mine are vintage Sergio Rossi , made in Italy , dark brown snakeskin with a dark silver band on the toe and heel. Can't wait to show you
