Many Canadian cabins are back-to-basics: rough and rugged like the surrounding wilderness. They are an escape, a place for reflection, rejuvenation, and reconnection through old time methods of boiling water before washing up, lighting candles when the sun goes down, and cooking over a camp fire. Living as the pioneers once did is fun and fulfilling in it's own right, but sometimes it's a real treat to vacation in the wilderness.
This cabin, located in St. Margarets Bay, Nova Scotia, was once a young bachelor's primary residence (overgrown and surrounded by bush), but has since been converted into a luxurious rural retreat. Modern amenities go a long way when you're interested in experiencing the great outdoors without the work associated with camping. I enjoyed the ocean view and rugged landscape as well as the hot shower and washing machine. Being half an hour outside of Halifax, and being twice the size of my Toronto apartment, I imagined converting the other building on the property into a studio and staying forever.
While on the subject of cabins, I've been enjoying this site.
