Emily Linsday was born in New Zealand to Scottish parents who moved to Canada in 1896. As a girl she lived next door to Emerson Coatsworth, the 33rd mayor of Toronto who encouraged her scholarly pursuits. A promising student, Linsday's fledgling literary attempts were lauded for their modern style and off-beat content by her friends and family. She tragically died in a boating accident and never reached her potential. Nothing remains of her writing.
