BRANTFORD TRAIN STATION

Brantford's Canadian National Railways Station was built in 1905 and is one of the few original train stations remaining on the Greater Trunk Railway line.  Boarding the VIA at Union (built in 1914 in the Beaux Arts style) and arriving in Brantford (designed with Gothic, Romanesque, and Chateauesque influences) is delightful; unfortunately the stations and scenery in between these stops are not.  In a statement of significance, Historicplaces.ca writes the following about Brantford station's heritage value.

The placement of Brantford on the Grand Trunk Railway Company (GTR) main line, and the construction of the Brantford station in 1905, reflect a short period of prosperity in the history of the GTR. During this time, the railway played a key role in Brantford’s economic development, providing access to markets, materials and labour.
