Upon recommendation we
visited Bauhaus, the German equivalent of Home Depot, and left wishing they would
open a Canadian franchise. The signage
and environment are identical to HD but the vast selection and additional
departments make it a superior shopping experience. The materials are provided in smaller and
more practical sizes allowing people to take them away on their bikes. The staff will cut wood to any desired size
and we even noticed an employee cut frame stock (with miter joints!) for a customer. The clincher was the inclusion of tillandsia,
an exotic air plant, found casually in the gardening department.
I am trying to imagine whether or not Walter Gropius would be pleased?!
